Russian National Airline Aeroflot Net Gain Sinks 17% in 2018

Russia's flag carrier Aeroflot posted a net gain of 22.5 billion rubles ($339.5mln) in January-September 2018, according to a report on revenues out Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th November, 2018) Russia's flag carrier Aeroflot posted a net gain of 22.5 billion rubles ($339.5mln) in January-September 2018, according to a report on revenues out Thursday.

This represents a 17.2 percent loss year-on-year. The total revenue rose 15.2 percent to 466.3 billion rubles, the airline said.

"For the first nine months we recorded a net profit of RUB 22.5 billion. However, we have entered the fourth quarter with continued high jet fuel costs and excessive capacity in the market," Deputy CEO Andrey Chikhanchin said.

A tonne of jet fuel was up 36 percent year-on-year in the first nine months of this year, Chikhanchin explained. A recent fall in oil prices is expected to drive down fuel costs next month, he added.
