Almost 60% UK Citizens Say Gov't Fails to Do Enough to Satisfy Infrastructure Needs - Poll

A total of 73 percent of UK citizens believe that it is crucial to develop the country's infrastructure for the sake of future economic growth, but almost 60 percent of them believe that their government is not doing enough to satisfy the United Kingdom's infrastructure needs, a worldwide poll carried out by Ipsos MORI research company in cooperation with the Global Infrastructure Investor Association (GIIA) revealed on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th November, 2018) A total of 73 percent of UK citizens believe that it is crucial to develop the country's infrastructure for the sake of future economic growth, but almost 60 percent of them believe that their government is not doing enough to satisfy the United Kingdom's infrastructure needs, a worldwide poll carried out by Ipsos MORI research company in cooperation with the Global Infrastructure Investor Association (GIIA) revealed on Thursday.

According to the results of the Global Infrastructure Index survey, a total of 58 percent of the UK respondents agree that authorities are not doing enough to meet the country's infrastructure needs, while 57 percent believe that the UK government is not involving citizens as actively as it should when deciding which infrastructure should receive investment.

A total of 42 percent of the polled UK citizens said that they had nothing against foreign investments in the country's new infrastructure projects if it fastened their implementation.

The survey also revealed that the UK respondents were most satisfied with the current condition of airport facilities as well as water supply systems and sewage, with 67 and 65 percent, respectively, approving of the quality of infrastructure in these sectors.

At the same time, railroad and housing supplies fared worst among those polled in the United Kingdom, with 54 percent of the respondents assessing their condition as poor.

The poll was carried out online among 20,286 people living in 29 countries, including 1,006 respondents in the United Kingdom, between August 24 and September 7.
