Apanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is likely to hold a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the upcoming G20 summit in Argentina's Buenos Aires, but the details regarding the meeting's format may be announced on Wednesday

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th November, 2018) Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is likely to hold a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the sidelines of the upcoming G20 summit in Argentina's Buenos Aires, but the details regarding the meeting's format may be announced on Wednesday, a spokesman for the Japanese Foreign Ministry's Russian Division told Sputnik.

On November 14, Putin said that his next meeting with the Japanese prime minister would take place at the G20 summit on November 30 - December 1. At the same time, Abe announced that he would visit Russia in early 2019. The Kyodo news agency later reported citing sources that the visit would take place in late January.

"The prime minister's trip to G20 has not been officially announced yet. In Singapore, [Putin suggested] to meet once again, so I think that the meeting will take place, but I cannot say what kind of meeting it will be ... It will probably become clear tomorrow," the spokesman said on Tuesday.

The official noted that it was unclear when Abe would visit Russia.

"The prime minister says he will visit [Russia] next year, but whether it takes place in January or not is yet to be decided," the spokesman explained.

The G20 summit will bring together the leaders of the world's 20 largest economies.
