Poroshenko Signs Decree to Impose Martial Law in Ukraine - Presidential Website

Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Monday signed a decree to put into effect the decision of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council to impose martial law in the country in connection with the incident in the Black Sea, which further aggravated relations between Moscow and Kiev, according to the president's website.

KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th November, 2018) Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko on Monday signed a decree to put into effect the decision of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council to impose martial law in the country in connection with the incident in the Black Sea, which further aggravated relations between Moscow and Kiev, according to the president's website.

"To enact the decision of the Ukrainian National Security and Defense Council dated November 26, 2018 'On emergency measures to ensure the state sovereignty and independence of Ukraine and to impose martial law in Ukraine," the document says.

Martial law will be effective from 15:00 Moscow time (12:00 GMT) on November 26, 2018 to 15:00 Moscow time (12:00 GMT) on January 25, 2019.

Poroshenko also tasked the Ukrainian General Staff with taking measures to organize partial mobilization.

On Sunday, the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) said three Ukrainian naval vessels had illegally crossed the Russian sea border, entered the temporarily closed area of the Russian territorial waters, and were moving from the Black Sea toward the Kerch Strait. The Ukrainian ships did not react to legitimate demands of the ships accompanying them, made dangerous maneuvers and were detained.
