EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini has been in touch with partners on the standoff between Ukraine and Russia in the Kerch Strait, her spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic said Monday.
BRUSSELS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th November, 2018) EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini has been in touch with partners on the standoff between Ukraine and Russia in the Kerch Strait, her spokeswoman Maja Kocijancic said Monday."Vice President Mogherini has been in touch with several partners since the escalation has started and will continue to engage on this issue in view of a broader international response," Kocijancic told reporters.
Tensions rose Sunday when Russia detained three Ukrainian naval ships in the Kerch Strait for entering its territorial waters and ignoring warnings to stop.
The EU political and security committee will meet "tomorrow at the latest" to discuss the matter, Kocijancic said, adding that contacts were ongoing on many levels. She stressed it was "imperative that utmost restraint is shown by all."
