Russia Aims to Closely Cooperate With Dominican Republic in UN Security Council - Lavrov

Russia aims to closely cooperate with the Dominican Republic in the UN Security Council as the Caribbean nation is set to serve a two-year term as a non-permanent member of the council starting from January 1, 2019, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th November, 2018) Russia aims to closely cooperate with the Dominican Republic in the UN Security Council as the Caribbean nation is set to serve a two-year term as a non-permanent member of the council starting from January 1, 2019, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said on Monday.

"On the international agenda, our interaction will become even closer due to the election of the Dominican Republic as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council. We aim at close interaction," Lavrov said at the meeting with his Dominican counterpart Miguel Vargas.

The Russian minister noted that the countries also have good prospects of expanding their economic cooperation and commended the state of affairs in other spheres of the bilateral ties.

"Our relations are also developing at the level of political dialogue in the framework of contacts between ministries and agencies on education, culture, humanitarian sphere and tourism," Lavrov added.

The Dominican foreign minister is currently paying a three-day visit to Moscow which has started earlier in the day. The latest meeting between Lavrov and Vargas took place exactly two months ago, during the 73rd United Nations General Assembly on September 26.
