The number of those injured in a strong earthquake that hit Iran's western province of Kermanshah on Sunday rose to 716, local media reported on Monday.

Earlier in the day, media reported about 550 people wounded in the Iranian cities of Gilan-e Gharb, Qasr-e Shirin and Sarpol-e Zahab. In addition, the earthquake has claimed the life of an individual on the territory of Iraqi Kurdistan, where 43 people were also injured.

The search and rescue operation is ongoing on the site, the Mehr news agency reported.

On Sunday, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre said that a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck the territories on the Iranian-Iraqi border. According to seismologists, the tremors were registered at 16:37 GMT, with the earthquake's epicenter having been located in 150 kilometers (93.2 miles) northeast of Baghdad.
