Russia, Portugal Agree To Boost Trade, Economic, Investment Cooperation - Moscow

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th November, 2018) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Portuguese counterpart Augusto Santos Silva have agreed to promote trade, economic, and investment cooperation between the two countries, including in the high technologies area, the Russian Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Sunday.

During his official visit to Portugal on Saturday, Lavrov held a meeting with Silva, while he was also received by Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa.

"The parties advocated for the further deepening of political dialogue ... It was also agreed to boost trade, economic and investment cooperation, including in the high-tech area, take measures to upgrade the treaty framework between the two countries, expand inter-regional ties and grow the number of contacts and projects in the cultural and humanitarian area," the statement read.

According to the Russian Foreign Ministry, Lavrov and Silva have discussed not only the current state of the bilateral relations, but also the two countries' cooperation on the international scene.

"When discussing international agenda issues, special attention was given to cooperation on multilateral platforms, primarily at the UN and OSCE [Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe], enhancing European security, current relations between Russia and the EU and NATO," the statement read on.

The sides have also discussed the Ukrainian, Syrian, and Libyan conflicts, the ministry added.

After his talks with Lavrov on Saturday, Silva called Russia an important partner of Portugal, adding that the two states shared common interests in the international agenda.
