French Police Detain 130 Participants of Protests Against Fuel Prices Hike - Minister

A total of 130 people were detained on Saturday across France during the ongoing "yellow vests" mass protests against the increasing oil prices, French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th November, 2018) A total of 130 people were detained on Saturday across France during the ongoing "yellow vests" mass protests against the increasing oil prices, French Interior Minister Christophe Castaner said.

Earlier in the day, local media reported about 35 people detained during the Saturday protests in Paris.

"Today many people were detained. A total of 130 people have been detained and taken into custody across France," Castaner said, as quoted by the BFMTV broadcaster.

Large-scale demonstrations over the rise in fuel prices started in France on November 17. According to the French Interior Ministry, more than 287,000 people took part in the protests last Saturday.

The price of diesel in France has risen by around 23 percent this year, while the gasoline price has gone up by 15 percent. Prices are set to increase further in January.
