Poland Joins EU's Cyber Rapid Response Force - Lithuanian Defense Ministry

Poland has joined the EU initiative on a cyber response force and mutual assistance led by Lithuania, the Baltic country's Defense Ministry said in a statement on Saturday.

"On November 24 Poland officially joined the European Union Permanent Structured Cooperation (PESCO) Cyber Rapid Response Teams Initiative launched by Lithuania. The Declaration of Intent was signed by Minister of National Defense of Poland Mariusz Blaszczak on a visit in Vilnius," the statement read.

Poland will participate in the initiative together with Lithuania, Estonia, Croatia, the Netherlands, Romania, and Spain - the EU member states that have signed the Declaration of Intent so far, according to the statement.

Under the initiative, cyber security units of the participating EU countries are expected to conduct investigations in cyberspace and cooperate in case of a major cyber incident, the ministry said.

To test the new structure, Lithuania is expected to host the first joint cyber security exercise involving the EU Cyber Rapid Response teams in the fall 2019, according to the European External Action Service (EEAS).
