MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd November, 2018) The ministerial conference of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs will take place in the Austrian capital in March 2019, Yury Fedotov, the executive director of the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), said on Friday.
"The ministerial conference within the framework of the UN Commission on Narcotic Drugs will be held in Vienna in March next year. The preparation [of the conference] is underway," Fedotov said, speaking at the Russian parliament's upper house.
He added that the sides were still arguing about the contents of the future ministerial declaration, with the majority calling to stick to the strategy outlined at the UN General Assembly's special session on the world drug problem in April 2016.
According to Fedotov, the 2016 session issued an outcome document containing 100 specific recommendations on countering drug problems, including drug-related crimes, drug abuse and illicit traffic in narcotic drugs.
