Minsk Invites EU To Develop Long-Term Strategy For Developing Relations - Deputy Minister

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd November, 2018) Belarus invites the European Union to jointly work out a long-term strategy for bilateral relations, Belarusian Deputy Foreign Minister Oleg Kravchenko said on Thursday.

"Obviously, certain disagreements remain in our relations. We are engaged in a frank discussion of complicated issues both in the EU-Belarus format and with the EU member states [individually]. I am confident that our disagreements would fade eventually. I suggest ... to begin right now joint work to shape the strategy for our relations, neighborhood and partnership," Kravchenko said as quoted by the Belarusian BelTA news Agency.

According to the Belarusian deputy minister, when having long-term objectives, the two parties will be able to cooperate more effectively to eliminate the differences that currently dominate the partnership.

Kravchenko stressed that normalized and improving relations between Minsk and Brussels would make a contribution to EU security.

He added that Belarus, as a member of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), advocated a full-fledged dialogue between the two blocs in Europe and Eurasia, in general.

Kravchenko indicated that Minsk aspired neither for EU membership nor for the prospect of such a membership and did not expect Brussels to treat Belarus in a special manner.
