Six al-Shabab fighters have been killed in a US airstrike in Somalia as part of a government-backed operation to degrade the Islamist militant group, the US African Command said Thursday.
MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 22nd November, 2018) Six al-Shabab fighters have been killed in a US airstrike in Somalia as part of a government-backed operation to degrade the Islamist militant group, the US African Command said Thursday."We currently assess the first airstrike killed six al-Shabaab militants and the second airstrike destroyed a weapons cache," AFRICOM said in a statement.
The precision airstrikes were conducted Wednesday near the town of Harardhere. The US military said no civilians appeared to have been killed or injured.
The militant group emerged in Somalia in 2006 and has been responsible for numerous terror attacks throughout the region. They are known for enforcing strict Muslims laws in territories under their control.
