Over 900 refugees, including more than 500 children, have returned to Syria from Lebanon and Jordan over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for the Reception, Allocation and Accommodation of Refugees said on Thursday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th November, 2018) Over 900 refugees, including more than 500 children, have returned to Syria from Lebanon and Jordan over the past 24 hours, the Russian Defense Ministry's Center for the Reception, Allocation and Accommodation of Refugees said on Thursday.

"Over the past day, in total 985 people returned to the Syrian Arab Republic from the territory of foreign states: 129 people (39 women and 66 children) left Lebanon for Syria via the Jaydet-Yabus and Talkalakh CPs [checkpoints], and 856 people (257 women and 437 children) from Jordan via the Nasib CP," the center said in its daily bulletin.

The center added that over 240 internally displaced Syrians had returned to their homes in Eastern Ghouta, Deir ez-Zor and Damascus provinces over that period.

"It is reported that 245 Syrians returned back to: Eastern Ghouta (Damascus province) - 26 people (8 women and 7 children) ... 219 people (women - 72, children - 118) and 26 vehicles returned back to the places of permanent residence in Deir ez-Zor and Damascus provinces through the checkpoint al-Salhiyah," the bulletin said.

One humanitarian action was carried out by the Russian side over the period, with 450 food sets weighing 1.95 tonnes distributed in the western-central Hama province, according to the bulletin. Additionally, 75 blankets, towels and wheelchairs have been given to a professional training institute for disabled people in Damascus province.

Moreover, the center noted that Russia's Chechen Republic's Akhmad Kadyrov foundation distributed a tonne of bread and handed out food packages to 15 families in Aleppo.

Almost 40 residents of Deir ez-Zor, including 19 children, received medical assistance over the past 24 hours.

The Syrian engineering units have cleared of mines 6.5 hectares of land, 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) of road and two buildings, destroying 28 explosive devices, the center specifed.

As most of the heavy fighting in Syria is now over and the war is nearing its end, the Syrian government has started welcoming back Syrians who were forced to flee the armed conflict and seek asylum in other countries. According to the refugee center's data, more than 38,400 refugees have returned to Syria from abroad since July while over 166,800 Syrians returned to their homes since January.
