Lebanese Prime Minister Accuses Hezbollah of Blocking Government Formation

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri accused on Tuesday the leadership of the Hezbollah movement of preventing the formation of a government in the country.

BEIRUT (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 13th November, 2018) Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri accused on Tuesday the leadership of the Hezbollah movement of preventing the formation of a government in the country.

"There is a decision on the part of Hezbollah to suspend the formation of the government ... I am sorry that the Hezbollah party puts itself in a position of being responsible for the obstacles in the formation of the government," Hariri told a press conference in Beirut.

He also accused the Shiite party of lobbying six independent candidates for ministerial seats from the Sunni side.

"I was extremely serious and honest, and my answers were specific from the beginning regarding the six candidates for the ministerial post, and I categorically opposed," Hariri said.

He also noted that the government was expected to be finally formed on Monday.

At the moment, the ruling parties from several confessions are trying to agree on the distribution of 30 ministerial portfolios among themselves, given that 10 ministers can prevent the adoption of any law. Hence, the opposing political forces are attempting to hinder the appearance of the majority of their rivals in the government.
