An F/A-18 combat jet of the United States Navy crashed into the Philippine Sea on Monday while carrying out its routine operations in the area, the US 7th Fleet said in a statement, adding that two crew members successfully ejected and were in a good condition

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 12th November, 2018) An F/A-18 combat jet of the United States Navy crashed into the Philippine Sea on Monday while carrying out its routine operations in the area, the US 7th Fleet said in a statement, adding that two crew members successfully ejected and were in a good condition.

The jet was conducting the operations off the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, which is part of the US Navy Carrier Air Wing (CVW) Five, based at the United States' Naval Air Facility Atsugi, around 25 miles to the southwest of Tokyo.

"A Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 5 F/A-18 experienced a mechanical issue that resulted in the crew ejecting while conducting routine operations in the Philippine Sea, Nov. 12," the statement read.

According to the statement, after ejection both pilots have been immediately rescued by the US side.

"The crew was immediately and safely recovered by USS Ronald Reagan (CVN 76) search and rescue aircraft and brought back to the ship for evaluation by medical personnel. Both aviators are in good condition," the statement added.

An investigation has been launched into the accident.
