Damascus Sends 2 Letters to UN Over US-Led Coalition's Deadly Airstrike - Reports

The Syrian Foreign Ministry has sent two letters to the United Nations over the recent airstrike by the US-led international anti-terror coalition on the city of Hajin, located in Syria's eastern Deir ez-Zor province, that left 26 civilians dead on Friday, local media reported on Saturday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th November, 2018) The Syrian Foreign Ministry has sent two letters to the United Nations over the recent airstrike by the US-led international anti-terror coalition on the city of Hajin, located in Syria's eastern Deir ez-Zor province, that left 26 civilians dead on Friday, local media reported on Saturday.

The state-run SANA news agency specified that the ministry had sent letters to the UN secretary-general and to the UN Security Council.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry said in a statement, quoted by SANA, that the incident had "once again" denounced US "false" claims on contributing to terrorism fight, proving that the United States indeed aimed at "killing as many Syrian people's sons as possible."

The ministry called on the UN Security Council to take "serious and immediate" steps toward non-repetition of such attacks, and also to create an independent international mechanism for investigation into such incidents.

The Syrian authorities have repeatedly called on the UN Security Council to put end to the coalition's presence in Syria, which Damascus qualifies as illegal.

The US-led coalition of more than 70 countries is conducting military operations against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq. The coalition's operations in Iraq are conducted in cooperation with the Iraqi government, but those in Syria are not authorized by the government of President Bashar Assad or the UN Security Council.
