US Envoy To UN Haley Says Russia Wants To Lift Banking Restrictions On N. Korea

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 09th November, 2018) US Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley told reporters that Russia allegedly wants to lift banking restrictions on North Korea.

"You know they talked a lot about how they are concerned about the humanitarian situation in North Korea, but the truth always comes out and at the end what they are looking for is to lift banking restrictions, which are exactly some of the things that we know that they are not following through on appropriately," Haley said on Thursday.

The US ambassador added that the United States is aware of Russia's agenda and will not allow a lifting a banking restrictions. Haley also accused Russia of cheating by using North Korean laborers.

The Russian permanent mission to the United Nations asked for closed consultations on sanctions against North Korea to be held by the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) on Thursday.

The UNSC has repeatedly imposed sanctions on North Korea over the country's nuclear and ballistic missile tests. Russia said in October it was time to consider the possibility of relaxing the international restrictions against Pyongyang amid commitment expressed by North Korea's leadership to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula.
