Ukraine's Prime Minister Forces Cabinet to Rubber Stamp Key Decisions - Reports

Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has been forcing his 23-member cabinet to rubber stamp key decisions made by a core group of nine ministers, local media said.

KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th November, 2018) Ukrainian Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman has been forcing his 23-member cabinet to rubber stamp key decisions made by a core group of nine ministers, local media said.

"Other ministers are told about these decisions right before cabinet meetings. You are simply told there is a decision you must vote for," a member of the government told the Ukrayinska Pravda newspaper.

The senior official who spoke on condition of anonymity said dissenting ministers were sometimes taken to the basement for a confidential talk with Groysman.

"Only top officials have access to that room. Just a handful of people in the country's leadership. It is an actual bunker down in the government building's basement," the official said.

This method, he said, is used to push through important strategic decisions. Groysman is also reported to rely on Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko to persuade ministers who refuse to toe the line.
