BEIJING (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th November, 2018) China's Foreign Ministry spokeswoman on Wednesday refused to comment on the results of US midterm elections in light of Washington's accusations that Beijing meddled in its electoral process.
"China has been paying attention to the midterm elections in the United States. Midterms are a domestic affair that the Chinese side cannot comment on, lest it is again accused of interfering," Hua Chunying said.
The Tuesday vote left Congress, the US legislature, divided after the Democratic Party took control of the House of Representatives while the Republicans retained their grip on the Senate.
The Chinese spokeswoman stressed that, whatever the outcome, Beijing was ready to work with Washington to narrow their differences on the basis of mutual respect.
US President Donald Trump blamed China in September for trying to interfere in Tuesday's crucial elections. Vice President Mike Pence echoed him in October. The Chinese Foreign Ministry has rejected the claims as baseless.
