US House Democratic Majority To Strive For Bipartisanship, Find Common Ground - Pelosi

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 07th November, 2018) The newly-elected Democratic majority in the US House of Representatives will do its utmost to find bipartisanship amid a divided legislative branch, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi said at a rally.

Earlier, the Democrats won a majority of seats to take control of the House while the Republicans maintained control of the Senate as a result of midterm elections.

"In stark contrast to the GOP [Republican] Congress, the Democratic Congress will be led with transparency and openness so that the public can see what's happening and how it affects them, and that they can weigh in with the members of Congress and with the President of the United States," Pelosi said after the election projections were announced on Tuesday. "We'll have accountability and we will strive for bipartisanship with fairness on all sides. We will have a responsibility to find common ground where we can, stand our ground where we can't... but we must try."

House Democrats are projected to win 229 seats and the Republicans 206 as a result of Tuesday's midterm elections, according to several networks such as NBC, ABC and FOX news based on exit polling.

Republicans are projected to keep at least 50 seats in the 100-member US Senate, which gives them control as Vice President Mike Pence will be the tiebreaker. Democrats will win at least 39 seats, according to projections, leaving 11 contests still undecided.
