US, Bangladesh Begin Military Exercise With Focus on Maritime Security - Navy

The United States and Bangladesh launched a maritime military exercise on Monday as part of a series of bilateral drills planned with allied and partner nations in South and Southeast Asia, the US Navy said in a press release on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 05th November, 2018) The United States and Bangladesh launched a maritime military exercise on Monday as part of a series of bilateral drills planned with allied and partner nations in South and Southeast Asia, the US Navy said in a press release on Monday.

"Sailors and Marines across five ships including a guided missile frigate and patrol craft from the Bangladesh Navy, and a maritime patrol aircraft and dry cargo ship USNS PFC Dewayne T. Williams (T-AK-3009) from the US Navy, will conduct a series of cooperative evolutions ashore and at-sea," the release said. "Joint evolutions are designed to highlight the ability for both navies to work together in ensuring maritime security, stability and prosperity."

The Cooperation Afloat Readiness and Training (CARAT) exercise kicked off in Chittagong, Bangladesh on Monday, the release explained.

"This year marks the 24th anniversary of the CARAT exercise series with bilateral engagements between a dozen ally and partner nations including Bangladesh, Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Timor-Leste and Vietnam," the release said.

The sea phase of the US-Bangladesh exercise will encompass scenarios in the Bay of Bengal to include a tracking drills aimed at increasing both navies' ability to pursue targets through the coordinated deployment of surface ships and maritime patrol aircraft, the release said.

The shore phase will involve symposiums to share knowledge ranging from gas turbine maintenance to aviation warfare, with US Marines also conducting joint training for raid operations, according to the release.
