The US Embassy in Ukraine called on Friday on the Ukrainian authorities to thoroughly investigate murders of journalists including Georgiy Gongadze and Pavel Sheremet.
KIEV (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd November, 2018) The US Embassy in Ukraine called on Friday on the Ukrainian authorities to thoroughly investigate murders of journalists including Georgiy Gongadze and Pavel Sheremet."On the International Day to #EndImpunity for Crimes against Journalists, we remember and honor Georgiy Gongadze, Pavel Sheremet, and other courageous journalists who have yet to receive justice. Crimes against journalists must be thoroughly investigated and prosecuted," the embassy wrote on its Twitter page.
In April 2000, Gongadze founded the Ukrainskaya Pravda internet media outlet criticizing the policy of then Ukrainian President Leonid Kuchma. For several months Gongadze was informing the Prosecutor General's Office about unknown persons' threats to him. In September 2000, Gorgadze went missing with his beheaded body found in a forest near Kiev two weeks later.
Sheremet, a well-known journalist, who had worked in Russia, Belarus and Ukraine, was killed on July 20 when the car he was traveling in exploded in the Ukrainian capital.
