The UK police said Friday that it launched an investigation regarding allegations of anti-Semitic hate crimes within the country's Labour party.
LONDON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd November, 2018) The UK police said Friday that it launched an investigation regarding allegations of anti-Semitic hate crimes within the country's Labour party.In September, Met Police Commissioner Cressida Dick was given a folder with documents, with the complainant claiming it included evidence of anti-Semitic hate crimes within the Labour Party. The commissioner promised to pass the document to experts to determine whether any crimes had taken place.
"The contents have been examined by specialist officers. A criminal investigation has commenced into some of the allegations within the documentation. Early investigative advice is being sought from the Crown Prosecution Service. The MPS will not comment further on the details of our investigation," the UK police said in a statement.
In turn, a Labour representative told reporters that the party would assist the police and conduct its own investigation.
Over the past years, Labour has been facing allegations of anti-Semitism. Several party members have even been suspended after it was revealed they had been involved in anti-Semitic actions. The party's leadership has promised firm action against the expression of anti-Semitic views by party members.
