Indonesian Authorities Vow To Boost Flight Safety Following Deadly Lion Air Plane Crash

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 02nd November, 2018) Indonesian Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi on Thursday pledged to improve flight safety of both low-cost air carriers and airlines offering traditional services in the wake of the deadly crash of the local Lion Air company's passenger plane.

"We will enhance the assessment on the flight safety for all airlines; not only the LCC [low-cost airlines] ... We will review all the matter whether there is something wrong," the minister said, as quoted by the local Tempo news outlet.

The minister noted that the authorities would seek help from the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and the European Union in resolving this issue.

The statement followed the demand of Indonesian President Joko Widodo to take steps to improve flight safety management of airlines.

The Lion Air flight JT610 fell into the sea shortly after taking off from an airport in the Indonesian capital of Jakarta. All 189 people on board the aircraft died in the accident. The authorities launched an investigation into the crash.
