Trump Says Mexico Unable To Stop Caravan, Warns 'Many More' Troops Coming To Border

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 31st October, 2018) US President Donald Trump vowed in a statement on Wednesday that more American troops are coming to the southern border after Mexico failed to stop a caravan of migrants from making its way toward the United States.

"Our military is being mobilized at the Southern Border. Many more troops coming. We will NOT let these Caravans, which are also made up of some very bad thugs and gang members, into the US Our Border is sacred, must come in legally. TURN AROUND!," Trump wrote.

On Monday, the Pentagon announced that it would deploy more than 5,200 active-duty soldiers to the southwestern border with Mexico to protect against the migrant caravan approaching from Central America. But Air Force Gen. Terrence O'Shaughnessy told the Wall Street Journal that the number of troops at the border could be exceed 5,200.

"The Caravans are made up of some very tough fighters and people. Fought back hard and viciously against Mexico at Northern Border before breaking through," Trump said in a second Twitter post. "Mexican soldiers hurt, were unable, or unwilling to stop Caravan. Should stop them before they reach our Border, but won't!"

The first caravan of illegal migrants set out from Honduras in the direction of Mexico and the United States on October 13, hoping to get asylum in these countries. According to the UN estimates, the caravan includes more than 7,000 migrants, while the Mexican Interior Ministry and the Defense Ministry said that there were around 3,600 asylum seekers.

Meanwhile, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Kevin McAleenan said on Monday that the CBP was tracking a second caravan of about 3,000 asylum-seekers on the Guatemala-Mexico border.
