UNITED NATIONS (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th October, 2018) Russia has no objections over the candidacy of Norwegian diplomat Geir Pedersen, who emerged as the frontrunner for the position of the UN special envoy for Syria, Russian Ambassador to the United Nations Vassily Nebenzia told reporters on Monday.
"If Damascus is fine with that, we will not object," Nebenzia said in response to a corresponding question.
Incumbent UN Special Envoy for Syria Staffan de Mistura announced earlier in October that he will leave the post at the end of November.
