A US federal judge has set a hearing on Thursday for Robert Bowers, the gunman who killed 11 people at a synagogue in Pittsburgh, US Attorney Scott Brady said in a press conference on Monday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 30th October, 2018) A US Federal judge has set a hearing on Thursday for Robert Bowers, the gunman who killed 11 people at a synagogue in Pittsburgh, US Attorney Scott Brady said in a press conference on Monday.

"Today Robert Bowers made his first appearance in federal court, the judge advised him of the charges against him, he is detained in jail without bond," Brady told reporters. "The federal magistrate judge scheduled a hearing for Thursday, November 1."

During his initial hearing, prosecutors will be able to present evidence demonstrating that Bowers murdered 11 people who were exercising their religious beliefs, Brady said. The investigation into the hate crime continues, he added.

On Saturday, the US Attorney's Office for the Western District of Pennsylvania said Bowers has been charged with 29 criminal counts.

Bowers opened fire on Saturday inside a synagogue in Pittsburgh, killing 11 people and injuring six others, including four police officers, according to the US authorities.

The accused shooter was reportedly shouting anti-Semitic slogans during the attack. He surrendered to police and was arrested.
