German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Monday that she would not propose her candidature for the leader of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) in December election.
BERLIN (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th October, 2018) German Chancellor Angela Merkel said on Monday that she would not propose her candidature for the leader of the Christian Democratic Union of Germany (CDU) in December election.
"At the next CDU party congress in December in Hamburg I will not propose my candidature for the CDU leader post," the chancellor announced at a press conference.
Merkel also said that she would leave the chancellor position after 2021.
"My fourth tenure will be my last term as the German chancellor. In the 2021 elections, I will not run for the German chancellor or as a candidate for a deputy, neither will apply for other political posts," Merkel said.
