Six Bodies Transported to Indonesian Harbor After Lion Air Plane Crash - Rescue Agency

Six bodies have been recovered from the site of a Lion Air Boeing 737 plane crash and have been transported to Indonesia's Tanjung Priok harbor, a spokesman of Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) told Sputnik on Monday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th October, 2018) Six bodies have been recovered from the site of a Lion Air Boeing 737 plane crash and have been transported to Indonesia's Tanjung Priok harbor, a spokesman of Indonesia's National Search and Rescue Agency (BASARNAS) told Sputnik on Monday.

The Lion Air plane, bound for the city of Pangkal Pinang located on the Indonesian island of Bangka, lost contact with the traffic control at 6:33 a.m. local time on Monday (23:33 GMT on Sunday) shortly after departure from Jakarta's airport.

"Six dead from the Lion Air Boeing 737 crash have arrived at Tanjung Priok harbor," the spokesman said.

Indonesian authorities have commenced search and rescue operations off the West Java coast. According to the BASARNAS spokesman, the search and rescue operations will last for seven days, unless all of the bodies are recovered before this time elapses.

Divers from a BASARNAS special rescue team had earlier in the day recovered one body after the plane's crash with plans to transport it to the RSUD Karawang hospital.

Also on Monday, The Jakarta Post newspaper reported that a total of 189 people were on board of the crashed aircraft.
