Canada Accepted 117 White Helmets, Families for Resettlement - Reports

Canada accepted at least 117 White Helmets' members and their families who had to leave Syria for resettlement in the country, local media reported.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 29th October, 2018) Canada accepted at least 117 White Helmets' members and their families who had to leave Syria for resettlement in the country, local media reported.

On Wednesday, the Foreign Ministry of Jordan said in a statement that 279 members of the White Helmets, who had fled Syria, left Jordan to be resettled in the West.

A group of seven families arrived at Pearson Airport in Toronto on Tuesday, according to CBC news. They are set to settle down in the provinces of British Columbia, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Nova Scotia.

Amman said in July that it had agreed to grant the White Helmets passage through its territory after it had received a pledge from Canada, Germany and the United Kingdom that they would take the refugees in after three months.

Damascus and Moscow accused militants and the White Helmets non-governmental organization of staging several provocations involving chemical weapons to influence public opinion and justify foreign intervention in Syria. In April, a staged chemical attack prompted the United States, the United Kingdom and France to strike Syria with over 100 missiles.
