German Ruling Parties Set For Huge Losses In Hesse - Exit Polls

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 28th October, 2018) German ruling Conservatives and Social Democrats from the Federal coalition are in for heavy losses in the Hesse state election, according to exit polls.

The polls published by ZDF and ARD broadcasters suggest that Chancellor Angela Merkel's Christian Democrats (CDU) will win over 27 percent of votes, at least 10 percent less than in 2013.

Their Social Democratic Party (SPD) allies in Berlin will likewise lose up to 11 percent of the vote, landing in third place with 19.9 percent.

The Green party, which has been governing the rich central state together with CDU, is projected to come second with over 19 percent, up more than 8 percentage points from 2013.

The anti-migrant Alternative for Germany (AfD) looks set to poll well over the 5-percent threshold, with over 12 percent, and enter the regional parliament, Landtag.

If true, the Sunday voting in Hesse could make the governing coalition unviable and echo in Berlin, where the chancellor's CUD party has been losing popularity.
