Lavrov, Cavusoglu Discuss Idlib, Russian-Turkish Cooperation in Syria - Moscow

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu discussed the implementation of the agreement on the Idlib de-escalation zone and measures to increase coordination between the two countries in Syria, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 27th October, 2018) Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and his Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu discussed the implementation of the agreement on the Idlib de-escalation zone and measures to increase coordination between the two countries in Syria, the Russian Foreign Ministry said on Saturday.

"The parties considered measures to enhance coordination in relation to the situation in Syria in terms of combating terrorism, enhancing the political settlement process based on UN Security Council Resolution 2254 and decisions of the Syrian National Dialogue Congress, creating conditions for the early return of refugees to their homes and post-conflict reconstruction of the country. Special attention was paid to the implementation of the September 17 agreements of Russian and Turkish presidents regarding the de-escalation zone in Idlib," the statement says.

The results of the meeting showed the importance of the Russian-Turkish political dialogue for strengthening peace and stability in the region, the ministry added.

The ministerial talks were held on the sidelines of the quadrilateral meeting of Russian, Turkish, French and German leaders.
