Assange Ready to Surrender to UK Justice Under Written Guarantee of No Extradition- Lawyer

Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks whistleblowing organization, is ready to turn himself in to the UK justice if he receives a written guarantee that he will not be extradited to the United States or to any other third country, Assange's lawyer told Sputnik on Friday.

QUITO (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th October, 2018) Julian Assange, the founder of WikiLeaks whistleblowing organization, is ready to turn himself in to the UK justice if he receives a written guarantee that he will not be extradited to the United States or to any other third country, Assange's lawyer told Sputnik on Friday.

"That commitment must be in writing, as a compromise between the states [Ecuador and the United Kingdom], affirming that there will be no extradition to the United States or third countries ... If there is such a commitment, then Mr. Assange will surrender to the UK justice," Carlos Poveda said.

Assange was questioned by the UK police over his alleged involvement in a sexual assault case in Sweden and released on bail, but breached its conditions by taking refuge in the Ecuadorian Embassy in London in 2012.

Sweden dropped the investigation in 2017, but the UK arrest warrant for Assange, over bail breach, remained in place.

Assange is fearing potential extradition to the United States, where he might face espionage charges as WikiLeaks has released a great number of what it said were US government documents.
