Trump Fabricates US Border Emergency As 'Cynical' Pre-Election Ploy - Advocacy Group

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 26th October, 2018) President Donald Trump's decision to reportedly deploy 800 military personnel to the US border in response to a migrant caravan moving through Mexico reflects an attempt to create a false emergency to influence the outcome of upcoming midterm elections, the advocacy group Human Rights First said in a press release.

"The president's decision to deploy the military when civilian border enforcement personnel are able to do the job is a cynical tactic designed to fabricate a sense of emergency as elections approach," the release said on Thursday. "The president should not be using the military to further a partisan agenda."

The United States is able to carefully process a few hundred asylum seekers and determine who should be allowed to stay in the country, the release explained.

US media reported earlier in the day that the Pentagon is preparing to send at least 800 military forces to the Mexican border with midterm elections less than two weeks away.

The deployment comes in response to a migrant caravan from Central America that has now reached Mexico and is located about 1,000 miles south of the US border.

The Mexican Interior Ministry and Defense Ministry said on Thursday the migrant caravan has shrunk to 3,630 people after approximately 1,750 people asked the Mexican authorities for asylum and some agreed to return to their home countries.

US officials apprehended more than 500,000 illegal border crossers in just-ended fiscal year 2018, an increase of more than 100,000 from the previous year, according to the US Border Patrol.
