Beijing Says Reports on China Wiring Trump's Cellphones Seek Oscar for Best Screenplay

Media reports on China allegedly wiring cellphones of US President Donald Trump look like "some people in the United States" are seeking to win the Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

BEIJING (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 25th October, 2018) Media reports on China allegedly wiring cellphones of US President Donald Trump look like "some people in the United States" are seeking to win the academy Award for Best Original Screenplay, the Chinese Foreign Ministry said on Thursday.

On Wednesday, the New York Times newspaper reported, citing sources, that the US security services had found out China and Russia were allegedly listening to Trump's phones. The media claimed, in particular, that Beijing used the gathered information to try to sway US policy in the bilateral trade dispute.

"The Chinese side took note of respective reports. It feels that currently some people in the United States really spare no effort in pursuit of the Oscar for the Best Screenplay," the ministry's spokeswoman Hua Chunying said.

The NYT publishing such reports is yet another proof that the newspaper disseminates fake news, the official noted.

Earlier on Thursday, Trump refuted the alleged wiring of his cellphones by the Russian and Chinese intelligence services with the aim to use the collected information to their advantage. At the same time, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Moscow did not take seriously such unjustified claims.
