US, Gulf Allies Sanction 8 People Tied to Taliban, Including 2 Iranian Officers - Treasury

The United States and its Gulf Arab allies have imposed sanctions on eight individuals linked to the Taliban in Afghanistan, including two officers of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the Treasury Department said in a press release on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 23rd October, 2018) The United States and its Gulf Arab allies have imposed sanctions on eight individuals linked to the Taliban in Afghanistan, including two officers of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), the Treasury Department said in a press release on Tuesday.

"Today, the seven member nations of the Terrorist Financing Targeting Center (TFTC) took significant actions to expose and disrupt Taliban actors and their Iranian sponsors that seek to undermine the security of the Afghan Government.The TFTC Member States designated nine individuals associated with the Taliban, including those facilitating Iranian support to bolster the terrorist group," the Treasury said in a press release.

The sanctions target Mohammad Ebrahim Owhadi (also known as Jalal Vahedi) and Esmail Razavi, the Treasury said, adding that the two men are members of the IRGC's elite Quds Force. Also among the Treasury's targets were Afghans Abdullah Samad Faroqui, Mohammad Daoud Muzzamil, Abdul Rahim Manan, Abdul Aziz, Sadr Ibrahim, and Hafiz Majid, the release said.

In addition, TFTC member states Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates imposed sanctions on a ninth individual, Naim Barich, who had already been designated by the United States.
