Blast Kills 6 People In Kashmir After Security Forces' Clashes With Insurgents - Police

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 21st October, 2018) As many as six people were killed and 40 others injured in a blast in the northern Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday, which occurred after local residents ventured into the area where the security forces carried out an anti-terrorist operation, police said on Sunday.

"Six people have been killed. We are trying to find out how it happened and what kind of explosive it was," Swayam Prakash Pani, the police inspector general, said as quoted by the NDTV broadcaster.

The Jammu and Kashmir region has been disputed between India, Pakistan and China since 1947. The state is currently divided between the three sides, with the so-called Line of Control serving as a de facto border between the Indian and the Pakistani-controlled parts of Kashmir.

The Indian government has been struggling with insurgency in the region since the late 1980s. New Delhi has repeatedly accused Pakistan of supporting the insurgents demanding the region's secession from India.
