Saudi Journalist's Killing Warrants Diplomatic Response From Turkey - Lawmaker

The killing of Saudi Arabia's government critic inside its consulate in Istanbul requires a diplomatic response from Turkey, opposition lawmaker Ozturk Yilmaz told Sputnik on Saturday

ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th October, 2018) The killing of Saudi Arabia's government critic inside its consulate in Istanbul requires a diplomatic response from Turkey, opposition lawmaker Ozturk Yilmaz told Sputnik on Saturday.

Saudi state media said initial findings by Saudi authorities probing journalist Jamal Khashoggi's vanishing on October 2 suggested he was killed in a struggle as a result of botched rendition.

"This incident has been a focus of international attention. It happened inside a foreign diplomatic mission in Turkey, which means Turkey has to react in line with the Vienna Convention," Yilmaz of Turkey's main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) said.

The 1961 convention on diplomatic relations, signed by both Saudi Arabia and Turkey, specifies privileges enjoyed by diplomatic missions and immunities granted to diplomats, including from arrest or detention.
