Saudi King Orders Determining Intelligence Service Powers Amid Khashoggi Killing - Reports

DOHA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 20th October, 2018) Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud issued an order to restructure the General Intelligence Directorate and to determine its procedures and powers amid the high-profile death of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi in the Saudi consulate in Turkey, local media reported on Saturday, citing the king's order.

The Saudi king had ordered a ministerial committee chaired by Crown Prince Mohammad Bin Salman Al Saud be established to perform this task, the state-run Saudi Press Agency reported.

The committee was to report on the results of its work in the course of one month, the outlet added.

The royal order issue followed the Saudi prosecutors' announcement that Khashoggi had died as a result of a quarrel in the Saudi consulate. The kingdom's authorities said they had detained 18 people in the case.

The Saudi king has dismissed Ahmed Asiri, the deputy head of the General Intelligence Directorate, and several other intelligence officials amid the probe into Khashoggi disappearance.
