Germany Orders Emissions Standard Compliance Tests for New Opel Models - Reports

The German Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure has ordered that new models of Opel cars should be tested for compliance with the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard, local media reported on Friday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th October, 2018) The German Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure has ordered that new models of Opel cars should be tested for compliance with the Euro 6d-TEMP emissions standard, local media reported on Friday.

According to the Spiegel magazine, the Federal Motor Transport Authority will be tasked with the compliance tests, which will concern the cars that are already on sale and considered to be compliant with the standard. Opel Insignia will also be checked for standard compliance.

The new tests come after German media reported that the Federal Motor Transport Authority was planning to recall 100,000 Opel cars as part of the continued diesel scandal probe. The same day, Opel automobile GmbH confirmed that the German authorities were searching its two plants in the cities of Russelsheim and Kaiserslautern.

The diesel scandal dates back to 2015, when the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) accused a number of German car manufacturers of using specific software to falsify emission test results for its diesel-engine vehicles. Since then, Germany has launched a number of investigations into its carmakers' emission software systems.
