Protesters Fail to Deliver Khashoggi Petition to US State Department as No One Came Out

US protestors have not been able to deliver their petition regarding the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi to the Department of State because no department employee came out to take it, a Sputnik correspondent reported from the scene.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th October, 2018) US protestors have not been able to deliver their petition regarding the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi to the Department of State because no department employee came out to take it, a Sputnik correspondent reported from the scene.

Dozens of protesters, who marched from the White House to the State Department to turn in a petition signed by thousands of people over the disappearance of Khashoggi, were blocked by officers from entering the State building and no one came out to either talk or receive the petition from them.

"Receive our petition," the protesters shouted and told the Sputnik correspondent that their call was ignored.

"We are not even allowed to deliver the petition on behalf of thousands of people. What are you afraid of?" one protester said.

The assembled people then sat down for a sitting protest. The organizer of the rally, Code Pink's Medea Benjamin read out loud the text of the petition. She noted that the petition had been signed by more than 6000 people.

The petition is a call for sanctions against Saudi Arabia and for the State Department to immediately implement them, Benjamin told Sputnik earlier.

The protest started at the White House at noon, and participants included a former State Department official, a former diplomat and a Saudi dissident.

The protesters will now head to the embassy of Saudi Arabia.
