Norwegian Police Say Decided to Withdraw Appeal Against Court Ruling on Russia's Bochkarev

The Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) said on Friday that it had discontinued its appeal against the court ruling on Russian citizen Mikhail Bochkarev, who was detained in Oslo on the suspicion of illegally gathering data.

STOCKHOLM (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 19th October, 2018) The Norwegian Police Security Service (PST) said on Friday that it had discontinued its appeal against the court ruling on Russian citizen Mikhail Bochkarev, who was detained in Oslo on the suspicion of illegally gathering data.

"PST has decided to withdraw the appeal related to the Russian citizen who was arrested on September 21 after attending a conference at the Storting [parliament]. He will be released today," the police wrote on Twitter.

Bochkarev, a staff employee of the Russian parliament, was detained at the Gardermoen airport outside Oslo on September 21 following his participation in an IT conference in Norway's parliament, arranged by the European Center for Parliamentary Research and Documentation. The Norwegian security suspects Bochkarev of gathering data via wireless signals and networks in the parliament building. Bochkarev denies accusations. On Thursday, a Norwegian court ruled not to prolong his arrest, but the Norwegian police appealed the decision.
