Fusion GPS Chief's Refusal to Testify on Steele File Disappointing - House Judiciary Chair

Fusion GPS head Glenn Simpson's refusal to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on the Christopher Steele dossier compiled on President Donald Trump is disappointing, committee chair Congressman Bob Goodlatte said on Tuesday.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th October, 2018) Fusion GPS head Glenn Simpson's refusal to testify before the House Judiciary Committee on the Christopher Steele dossier compiled on President Donald Trump is disappointing, committee chair Congressman Bob Goodlatte said on Tuesday.

"It's disappointing that Glenn Simpson refused to answer the many questions we have for him as part of our investigation into decisions made and not made by the Justice Department in 2016," Goodlatte said in a statement after Simpson invoked his Fifth Amendment right not to testify.

Simpson had already voluntarily testified before other congressional committees regarding his firm's role in compiling the dossier used to obtain a Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) warrant against a US citizen, Goodlatte recalled.

"Today we expected Mr. Simpson to answer questions that have not been explored by other congressional committees ... Instead, Mr. Simpson has refused to cooperate with our investigative team and has denied the American people answers to important questions," Goodlatte said.

As part of the House Judiciary Committee's joint investigation into decisions made and not made by the Department of Justice in 2016, Goodlatte subpoenaed Simpson to appear before the committee for a deposition on October 16, 2018.

Last week, the Cunningham Levy Muse LLP law firm said in a letter to Goodlatte that Simpson would not participate in a confidential deposition before the House Judiciary Committee as requested in a subpoena.
