Turkish Police Enter Saudi Consulate for Searches as Part of Khashoggi Case - Reports

Turkish police have entered the main building of Saudi Arabia's Consulate General in Istanbul for searches as part of the investigation into the disappearance of Saudi opposition journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Turkey's NTV broadcaster reported on Tuesday.

ANKARA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th October, 2018) Turkish police have entered the main building of Saudi Arabia's Consulate General in Istanbul for searches as part of the investigation into the disappearance of Saudi opposition journalist Jamal Khashoggi, Turkey's NTV broadcaster reported on Tuesday.

Earlier in the day, the broadcaster reported that the Turkish police had found evidence during their authorized search of other premises of the Saudi Consulate showing that Khashoggi had been murdered there.

Turkish Foreign Ministry spokesman Hami Aksoy said also earlier on Tuesday that Turkey received permission from Saudi Arabia to inspect its Consulate General in Istanbul in connection with the disappearance of Khashoggi.

Khashoggi, a columnist for the Washington Post disappeared after visiting the Saudi consulate in Istanbul on October 2. According to the journalist's fiancee, he was invited to the consulate to receive documents but never left the diplomatic mission's building. The Saudis claim Khashoggi left the building unharmed.

Earlier on Tuesday, Saudi Consul General in Istanbul Mohammad Otaibi left Turkey for Riyadh amid the growing scandal around the disappearance of Khashoggi.
