Office of Russian-Ugandan Intergovernmental Commission Opens in Uganda's Capital

An office of the Russian-Ugandan Intergovernmental Commission on Economy and Scientific and Technical Cooperation opened in Kampala on Tuesday with officials from both sides attending the ceremony.

KAMPALA (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th October, 2018) An office of the Russian-Ugandan Intergovernmental Commission on Economy and Scientific and Technical Cooperation opened in Kampala on Tuesday with officials from both sides attending the ceremony.

The opening was attended by Russian Deputy Minister of Digital Development, Communications and Mass Media Alexey Volin, who co-chairs the commission, as well as Russian Ambassador to Uganda Alexander Polyakov and Uganda's Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Henry Oryem Okello.

"In order to work and act normally in the country, a platform and presence is necessary. Accordingly, the office is the place where there can be an exchange, building of relations between Russian and Ugandan companies, " Andrei Rashin, the chairman of the Russian part of the working group on cooperation between Russia and Uganda in the mineral sector, told Sputnik.

The office, which currently consists of five people, will help to effectively boost ties between Russian and Ugandan business and provide a platform for various intergovernmental programs, according to the commission.
