Sullivan Pushes To Boost US Investment In Iraq Rebuilding On Baghdad Visit - State Dept.

WASHINGTON (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 16th October, 2018) US Deputy Secretary of State John Sullivan during a visit to Baghdad that he is advocating for increasing US investment in Iraq's reconstruction, Department of State spokesperson Heather Nauert said in a press release.

"The meeting included a discussion with visiting leadership from General Electric Company on the importance of expanding Iraq's economic ties and increasing foreign investment to facilitate reconstruction, specifically by harnessing the innovative capabilities of US companies," Nauert said in the release on Monday.

While in Baghdad, Sullivan met with Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi on Sunday to congratulate him and all Iraqis on their commitment to a democratic process and the formation of a new government, Nauert said.

Sullivan praised Abadi for his leadership against the Islamic State terror group (banned in Russia), Nuert pointed out.

The Deputy Secretary also reaffirmed the US commitment to the continued security, political and economic cooperation with Iraq within the framework of the US-Iraq Strategic Framework Agreement, Nauert said.
