EU Warns About 'Hybrid Threats' in Restive Central African Republic

The fragility of the security situation in the Central African Republic is undermined by hybrid threats, EU foreign ministers said in conclusion to their meeting in Brussels on Monday.

LUXEMBOURG (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 15th October, 2018) The fragility of the security situation in the Central African Republic is undermined by hybrid threats, EU foreign ministers said in conclusion to their meeting in Brussels on Monday.

"The Council emphasises that the security situation, including hybrid threats, confirms the need to continue to strengthen the Central African Armed Forces," the statement reads.

They said they had invited the EU external action service to establish and deploy as soon as possible a civil-military force within its training mission in the country to provide "strategic advice."

This comes after Russia said it had offered the Republic's government to set up a Russian military representation at the Defense Ministry to help it rebuild the army.

The country has been in turmoil since 2012 after an armed conflict broke out between Muslim Seleka militants and Christian anti-balaka militias. The rivals signed a declaration of understanding in August after a Russia-brokered peace meeting in Khartoum.
