Says the mineral water companies are earning billions using groundwater and people don’t get anything except expensive bottles
Islamabad (Pakistan Point News – 11th October, 2018) Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Mian Saqib Nisar has requested the citizens not to drink mineral water.
A hearing on the suo moto notice on the exploitation of water resources by mineral water companies was held in the Supreme Court on Thursday.
During the hearing, the CJP said that I request the people not to drink mineral water.
“Drink tap water after boiling it, you will be safe,” he said.
The CJP said that the mineral water companies fill the bottles from groundwater. They are selling a small bottle in Rs 32.
Justice Ejaz ul Ahsan said that the companies are making a profit of over Rs 1 billion.
The CJP questioned Aitzaz Ahsan, “Do you know the water level after boring in Lahore?” To this, Aitzaz replied yes, the water comes to 400 feet.
The CJP said that you want to dry up Lahore and Sheikhupura. “The mineral water companies fill the bottles for free. People keep waiting at the taps but there is no water. Moreover, the water is not up to the standards of health.”
He said that he has issued a notice to all the mineral water companies.
“Today’s ruling will be enforced on everyone. We won’t let them use the groundwater for free,” he said, adding that the turbines of mineral water companies will be closed.
These companies are earning billions using gallons of groundwater and the people don’t get anything except expensive water, the CJP further said.
