Jailed Ukrainian Sentsov Has No Complaints About Food, Medical Care - Russian Ombudswoman

Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov, who was convicted on terrorist charges in Russia and has recently stopped his months-long hunger strike, has no complaints about his meals and medical care in jail, Russian human rights commissioner Tatiana Moskalkova said on Wednesday.

MOSCOW (Pakistan Point News / Sputnik - 10th October, 2018) Ukrainian filmmaker Oleg Sentsov, who was convicted on terrorist charges in Russia and has recently stopped his months-long hunger strike, has no complaints about his meals and medical care in jail, Russian human rights commissioner Tatiana Moskalkova said on Wednesday.

On October 5, Sentsov wrote a statement announcing the end of his hunger strike in the presence of his lawyers. On the following day, the ombudsman in Russia's Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Area, where the filmmaker is serving his prison term, Anatoly Sak, visited Sentsov, according to Moskalkova.

"Sentsov told [Sak] that he feels good. According to Anatoly Sak, Oleg Sentsov looks quite healthy and eats regularly under close medical supervision. Sentsov did not complain about the detention conditions, meals and medical care," Moskalkova said, as quoted by her press service.

In 2014, Sentsov was arrested in the Crimean city of Simferopol, and in 2015 a Russian court sentenced him to 20 years in prison for setting up a terrorist cell called Right Sector (banned in Russia), which plotted terrorist acts in Crimea.

The Ukrainian filmmaker has pleaded not guilty to the charges. He had been on a hunger strike since mid-May.
